Configure Bundles in Salesforce CPQ

Hello Ohana,

This is my very first article to focus on and learn the basics about how to build a bundle with Salesforce CPQ. Bundles are groups of products with logic to enforce business rules and streamline the quoting process.

So let's jump-start what are Bundles? and why are they important?

A bundle is a product with optional features or components that you want to include on a single quote line. OR in simple words, a collection of products that are sold together called a Bundle.

For example, you might want to sell a printer, toner, paper, and two paper trays together. Those are all just products, much like the ones you'd see in any org. The magic happens when CPQ knows they're supposed to be sold as a set.

Bundles are to be used to guide your sales reps. to configuring holistic solutions for your customers by allowing you to group products that can be sold together. So, Bundles allows you to present products to your sales reps. in an organized way with built-in logic that will help to steer your sales reps. towards ideal product states and away from invalid configurations.

Note: Bundles can be static or configurable

Examples of Bundle Configuration(as per in below image):

  • Required Products: This bundle must always include product B.
  • Suggested Products: Product C is automatically selected to encourage inclusion, however, it is not required.
  • Quantity Relationships: The quantity of product D should be twice that of the parent product quantity (product A).
  • Dependencies:
  1. Product E and Product F must be sold together.
  2. Product F must be selected for product H and product I to be available for selection.

What basic terminology comes whenever creating a Bundle?

  • Parent Product aka Bundle: The parent product is the bundle itself with optional features or components that you want to include on a single quote line.
  • Product Options: These products in the bundle contribute to the bundle price. You can consider these children of the bundle parent. An option doesn't contribute to the bundle price if you select its Bundled checkbox.
  • Features: A feature is a group of options. You can use the Min Options and Max Options fields to define selection restrictions for objects in the same feature, such as "pick one or more" or "pick 3 of 5."
  • Option Constraints: Use constraints to control how users select options together.
  • Configuration attribute: A field and picklist are shown above or below the list of product options. This field targets all options containing the same field and applies its value to all those fields.

Speed up the quoting process and make sure your sales reps sell the right products together by creating bundles they can add to quotes. As an admin, you create the bundles your sales reps choose from. As you'll see, making bundles is about as easy as packing a lunch.
