Lamborghini Veneno Roadster

50th Anniversary of Lamborghini

I remember it like it was yesterday. When I entered the GIMS 2013 (Geneva International Motor Show), two cars stood out from the rest. In the middle of Ferrari's stand, there it was – the beautiful LaFerrari, representing everything that Ferrari stands for. But another Italian brand attracted attention too. Lamborghini also unveiled the Veneno Coupé, a 3-vehicle limited supercar based on the platform of the Aventador.

The occasion for the introduction of the Veneno Coupé was the 50th anniversary of the Automobili Lamborghini brand. In fact, the model name comes – complying with the old Lamborghini tradition – from a Spanish fighting bull named Veneno. The bull killed the torero José Sánchez Rodríguez during a bullfight in the arena of Sanlúcar de Barrameda in 1914.

Veneno Roadster Version

One years later, in December 2014, Lamborghini publicly unveiled the Veneno Roadster on the Italian aircraft carrier Cavour in Abu Dhabi. Of course, Lamborghini decided to build the Roadster in very limited numbers as well. Only 9 vehicles to be precise.

The Italians claim the roadster's performance is the same as that of the coupe. Both versions have an output of 751 hp (552kW). But the convertible takes a tenth of a second longer (2.9 seconds) to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h. Thanks to the usage of carbon fiber and lightweight components, Lamborghini reduced the weight by 85 kg to 1490 kg compared with the Aventador. As a result, the power-to-weight ratio is 1.99 kg/hp. Sporting a 750-horsepower version of the Aventador's naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V-12, the Lamborghini Veneno Roadster hits a top speed of 355 km/h (221 mph). The wheels of the car measure 20-inch at the front and 21-inch at the rear.

This particular Veneno Roadster in the pictures is finished in an eye-catching Matte Black. In addition, the interior comes in lime green and black leather, reflecting some details of the livery. Unequivocally, one of the best Venenos, which was previously owned by a member of the Saudi Arabian royal family.

Design

As soon as the car was introduced its unique design was heavily discussed within the automotive industry. For many collectors, both the Lamborghini Veneno Roadster and the Coupe version were just a little bit too much. Doubtlessly, the design is aligned to extreme aerodynamics and had nothing to do with its origin model, the Aventador. On the other hand, car enthusiasts (and I am counting myself in here!) were amazed by the effort the Italian car brand dedicated to build a super sport. The Veneno Roadster is a supercar that isn't in competition with any other cars we have seen before its introduction. In fact, the "Centro Stile Lamborghini" did a great job in pushing automotive design to the maximum. And carbon fiber played a crucial role in its construction, since the Veneno's carbon monocoque is visible within the car and around its central tunnel and door stills.

Price and Collectability

When introduced, the vehicle had a price of USD 4,000,000, making it one of the most expensive production cars in the world. However, the value has appreciated since then and the current market price of the Lamborghini Veneno Roadster is around USD 6,000,000.

Since the moment the car was introduced, it has been a must-have for every proper Lamborghini collector. But only 9 people are lucky enough to have such a bull in their garage. The Veneno is Lamborghini's interpretation of a racing prototype built for the road. There is no doubt that the jet-like Veneno will be a future classic as it is already one of most desired Lamborghinis ever built. The wild design of the Lamborghini Veneno Roadster was designated to shape the Italian's brand future and is a significant milestone in the Lamborghini's history.

Summary

Brand:

Lamborghini

Model:

Veneno Roadster

Price:

Original selling price was USD 4,000,000 but its current market price is around CHF 6,000,000.

Limitation:

Production batch of around only 9 cars.

When to drive:

Definitely not a car made for daily use. But why not use it from time to time to drive on a nice sunny highway along the Côte d'Azur? In any case, I am sure this roadster would make some heads turning when passing by.

What we love about the car:

The wild design of the Lamborghini Veneno Roadster is very controversial among collectors. Personally, I love it and adore Lamborghini's courage for pushing design limits to the maximum.
